Dominican’s Bachelor of Arts in Legal Studies (BLS) is an accelerated program program that will provide maximum flexibility, value and opportunity for working adults who want to complete
a college degree. Engage directly with faculty members on a schedule that works for you—online or in person—in this program that is ranked 15th in the nation by The Best Schools based on its “academic excellence, faculty strength, range of courses provided, awards, rankings and reputation.”You’ll be able to choose up to two concentrations in areas such as paralegal studies, public administration, disability advocacy, labor relations, law and social justice, criminal justice—or create your own concentration.

Online Learning at Dominican

Online learning allows you to earn a degree from a highly respected university without putting your career on hold. Our online bachelor’s programs are more flexible and convenient than traditional programs, but they are by no means easier.

Each week, you’ll be expected to read about 100 pages, take a short online quiz, engage in online discussions with classmates and your instructor, and complete a written assignment.

Never taken an online course before? No worries. All students in our online programs begin with an Adult Learning Seminar, which includes lessons in navigating the online learning environment, so you’ll have the tools to succeed. 

Program Overview

Presented in accelerated format, the BLS program allows you to complete the equivalent of two years of full-time coursework in just 20 months. The program is an interdisciplinary program exploring the American legal system from a wide range of perspectives, including economics, philosophy, theology and history. You’ll study with leading scholars and legal professionals and build competence in writing, research and critical thinking. You’ll learn how the legal system works, how it interrelates with social justice and how to assist people in asserting their rights.

Second Bachelor’s Degree Option

Students who already have a bachelor’s degree and seek to retrain for a law-related field or to prepare for law school may enroll in a 10-course program leading to a second bachelor’s degree in legal studies.

BLS graduates are prepared to work as paralegals, law enforcement officers and professionals in a wide range of settings, including:

In addition, the program’s foundational studies in the legal system, legal terminology and the liberal arts provide strong preparation for law or graduate school. There is also the option to take several graduate courses towards multiple degrees, such as conflict resolution, social work or library sciences and business by enrolling in an accelerated BA to graduate degree saving time and money.
