The Department of Modern Foreign Languages offers a variety of opportunities for students to develop their language skills and make connections with students who share their interests.

Modern Foreign Languages Clubs

Dominican has three language clubs that promote and highlight their respective languages and cultures and host relevant events and lectures.

  • The French Club (Le Cercle Français) sponsors outings to the annual Chicago International Film Festival and programs sponsored by the Alliance Française and the French-American Chamber of Commerce.
  • The Italian Club (CIAO) sponsors events such as the celebration of the St. Joseph’s Day Table.
  • The Organization of Latin American (OLA) students host a variety of cultural and recreational events.
Conversation Hours

The fastest way to achieve fluency in another language is to speak it frequently. French Café Conversation is open to all Francophones on campus, meeting three to four times a month at different times of the day to accommodate students' schedules. Conversation is guided by French professors and driven by students' interests.
