Bio

Daniel Anderson grew up on the Northwest Side of Chicago and was educated in Catholic and public schools there. After earning a degree in journalism at Northwestern University, he worked as a reporter and editor for newspapers in Kentucky, Virginia and Iowa; he later earned English degrees from Boston College (MA) and the University of Minnesota (PhD). His research interests concern the intersections of popular culture, regionalism and renaissance – subjects he has explored in published articles and lectures, as well as in his dissertation, which examined the roles of sports and sportswriting in the Harlem Renaissance. Anderson teaches courses in composition and American literature, including African-American literature and the literature of the American South.
