Modern Foreign Languages

Dominican offers majors and minors in French, Italian and Spanish. Students can also study elementary and intermediate German.

In an increasingly global world, learning the language, culture, and history of other traditions becomes essential to students wishing to enrich their experience of the world and set themselves apart from the vast majority of American college graduates.

Language knowledge helps prepare the student to work in a variety of settings, either in this country or abroad.

The Modern Foreign Languages Department prepares students for careers in:

  • International corporations
  • Banking
  • Government
  • Diplomacy
  • Manufacturing
  • Travel
  • Transportation
  • Interpreting and Translation
  • Medical Professions
  • Law
  • Fashion design/marketing
  • Social work/psychology/medicine/health professions in the U.S. and foreign countries.
  • Education

Many students pair a foreign language with business or education studies to maximize their career opportunities. These students should solicit academic counseling early to plan their course of study.

We strongly encourage all foreign language students to complete at least one study abroad experience during their time at Dominican.
