When is commencement?

The Spring Commencement Ceremony is Sunday, May 7, 2017 at the UIC Forum.

10:30 a.m. Undergraduate Ceremony

3 p.m. Graduate Ceremony

Students should arrive at least 45 minutes prior to the start of each ceremony.
The processions will begin at 10:15 a.m. and 2:45 p.m.

Why isn't Commencement on campus?

Dominican University’s Commencement ceremony is a family celebration, so to ensure that our graduates are able to share this special day and their accomplishment with their families in attendance, the Spring 2017 Commencement ceremonies will be held on Sunday, May 7 at the UIC Forum, 725 W. Roosevelt Road, Chicago. Regrettably, seating capacity for the Lund Auditorium and other campus locations can no longer adequately and comfortably accommodate our graduates, families, friends and faculty for this momentous occasion. The increased seating in the UIC Forum allows each graduate to receive additional tickets.  Students will receive six tickets for  guests to attend.  At the current time, we are not anticipating additional tickets for the ceremonies will be available.

The traditional pre-Commencement activities – the Baccalaureate Mass and Candle and Rose – will remain on campus beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 6, affording graduates important graduation-related campus moments and celebrations with family and friends.

How do I sign up to participate in the Spring 2017 Commencement?

Students will receive an email message and link to the Online Commencement Participation Form. Students have until Friday, March 3 to complete the online form.  All students who complete the online form after Friday, March 3 will be charged a $25.00 late fee.  If you did not receive the link to the Online Participation Form, please email dugrad@dom.edu

Is there a commencement rehearsal?

There will be no commencement rehearsal.  Handouts and information will be available at the Countdown to Commencement Event on Monday, April 10 and Tuesday, April 11.  Students will also be emailed a list of instructions and seating information one - two weeks prior to commencement.

Where do graduating students meet before commencement?

Line-up begins one hour before the ceremony at the UIC Forum.  All students should enter the doors located at the corner of Halsted and Roosevelt Roads; proceed to the 2nd Floor of  the UIC Forum.  Students will be directed to locations based upon their school and degree.  Students should only bring their cap, gown, hood and honor cords. All other items should be left with family or in in your vehicle

What should graduating students wear to commencement?

Graduates wear caps and gowns with hoods that vary by schools. Students may wear their honor cords. Your attire should be business appropriate (i.e. no jeans, flip-flops, shorts etc.) We want to make sure that you look your best when you walk across the stage. Please leave your purses or any other items with family members so you do not carry them as you process.

How do graduating students order commencement regalia (cap and gown)?

Students are directed to order their regalia after completing the Online Participation Form or you can order online directly from Herff Jones.  The deadline to order your regalia is Friday, March 3. We will accept late orders but all students may be charged a late processing fee of $25.00.  Students pay for their regalia at the time of ordering online or if ordering late at the time of pick-up directly to the Stepan Bookstore.  Please review the Regalia and Announcements information for more details.

What do graduating students do with my cap and gown after the ceremony?

The regalia is the "keepsake" variety - graduates do not need to return regalia after the commencement ceremonies. The regalia is yours to keep. There will be donation boxes at the UIC Forum if you wish to donate your regalia.

How many tickets do graduating students receive for the ceremony?

At the current time we are unable to confirm the exact number of tickets each graduate will receive until we know how many students will be participating in the Commencement Ceremony. Graduates will receive at least 4 tickets and up to 6 tickets.  We will confirm the number of tickets each graduate will receive after the March 3 deadline.  The number of tickets each graduate will receive will be confirmed the week of March 13.  Students that turn in the On-Line Commencement Form late my receive a reduced number of tickets.

Graduates do not need a ticket.  Any child under the age of two, or who will be sitting on an adult's lap, does not need a ticket. Ticket Pick-Up Information is posted on the Commencement website. Additional tickets will not be available. Graduates can "trade/give" tickets to each other.

  • Guest seating details:  Seating is on a first come first served basis.  There will be plenty of seats available for guests requiring accessible seating accommodations.
