30th Annual Trustee Benefit Concert
Nathan Gunn and Elizabeth Futral

Nathan Gunn has made a reputation as one of the most exciting and in-demand baritones of the day . This past season, Mr. Gunn returned to the Metropolitan Opera as Mercutio in Roméo et Juliette (which was broadcast live in HD in movie theaters around the world), the Lyric Opera of Chicago as Figaro in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, the London Symphony Orchestra as the title role in a concert version of Billy Budd, and the New York Philharmonic is semi-staged performances of Camelot (broadcast live on PBS's Great Performances). Mr. Gunn has appeared in internationally renowned opera houses such as the Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Seattle Opera, Houston Grand Opera, Royal Opera House (Covent Garden), Paris Opera, Bayerische Staatsoper, Glyndebourne Festival, and the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels. Also a distinguished concert performer, Mr. Gunn has appeared the New York Philharmonic, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra, Minnesota Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, Münchner Rundfunkorchster, and the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra.


Elizabeth Futral has established herself as one of the major coloratura sopranos in the world today. With her stunning vocalism, vast dramatic range, and great beauty, she has embraced a diverse repertoire that includes Vivaldi, Handel, Mozart, Bellini, Donizetti, Rossini, Verdi, Glass, and Previn. Of her spectacular debut at the Metropolitan Opera in Lucia di Lammermoor, The New York Times wrote: "Her singing was sure, virtuoso and yet still lighted by humanity . . . " Ms. Futral has garnered raves at the world's greatest opera houses in such roles as Gilda, Juliette, Lakmé, Lucia, Nanetta, Mélisande, Romilda, and Violetta. She dazzled audiences and critics with her debut at the Los Angeles Opera as Cleopatra in Francisco Negrin's acclaimed production of Handel's Giulio Cesare. She catapulted to stardom in 1994 in a critically acclaimed production of Delibes' Lakmé, at the New York City Opera. In 1996, she was invited to the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, the city of Rossini's birth, to sing the title role in Matilde di Shabran, in the first production of this opera in 175 years.
