TRIO Student Support Services Program
TRIO Student Support Services Grant
Dominican University received the TRIO Student Support Services Grant for the first time in September 2020. The Department of Education awards the TRIO SSS grant to institutions of higher education to provide opportunities for academic development, assist students with basic college requirements, and to motivate students toward the successful completion of their postsecondary education. Student Support Services (SSS) projects also may provide grant aid to current SSS participants who are receiving Federal Pell Grants. The goal of SSS is to increase the college retention and graduation rates of its participants.
The goals of the grant include:
- Improve the rate for persistence for TRIO participants
- Improve academic standing of TRIO participants
- Improve graduation rate for TRIO participants
- Academic tutoring
- Advice and assistance in postsecondary course selection
- Financial aid and scholarship support
- FAFSA support
- Financial literacy Education
- Assistance in applying for admission to graduate and professional programs
- Intrusive advising for personal, career, and academic matters
- Career exploration, including exposure to graduate and professional schools
- Exposure to cultural events and academic programs
- Participant and/or their family are low income (annual income less than $39,300 for family of four)
- Participant is a first-generation college student
- Participant has a documented disability
- Department of Education TRIO low-income levels
