On October 16, 2024, the Brennan School of Business hosted a special event on our campus featuring renowned speaker Alex Counts, founder of the Grameen Foundation, who shared his insights on effective and ethical mission-driven leadership.

Alex Counts

Founder of the Grameen Foundation

Alex Counts shared some of his most pragmatic, actionable, and surprising lessons in mission-driven leadership. He drew from his acclaimed book Changing the World Without Losing Your Mind, his nearly four decades of experience working with some of the world's leading social entrepreneurs, including Nobel Peace Prize laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus, and from serving as the chief executive or chairman of nonprofit organizations including the Washington, D.C.-based Grameen Foundation that have shaped the growth and development of the microfinance movement globally and the philanthropic sector more generally. He emphasized the importance of taking practical steps to ensure self-care, and how that can be accomplished while attempting to make major changes in society.
