Reinstatement
Reinstatement is for a student who is in violation of status. Some examples of violation of status are unauthorized withdrawal, not completing the required number of courses to maintain status or not transferring within 60 days. The student must demonstrate that:
- They are “out of status” due to circumstances beyond their control or that failure to reinstate would result in extreme hardship
- They are currently enrolled in or intend to enroll as a full-time student at Dominican University
- They have not engaged in unauthorized employment
- They have not been in violation of status for more than five months. If more than five months, then reinstatement is not a possibility, except in very rare circumstances.
- They are not currently in removal proceedings

The new regulations state that only a few reasons are possible for reinstatement. This is now very difficult to have approved and no guarantees of approval can be made. If reinstatement is denied, then the student must leave the U.S. immediately.
It is the student’s responsibility to notify Sue Ponremy of the approval of the reinstatement and bring in the pertinent documents.
