Deciding whether to commute or live on campus may not seem like as big of a decision as where you go to college. But where you live has a huge impact on your college experience.

Dominican residents rave about their on-campus experience. Who wouldn’t want to make their home in a place that looks like Hogwarts? That’s one good reason to live on campus. Here are six more.

Make friends who are like family

Dominican students have a saying—we’re #1 in friendship. When you live on campus, your friends become like family. You’ll share space, meals, weekends and chores. Plus, living on campus gives you the chance to meet people you might not otherwise encounter. Those who live on your floor, for example, are not necessarily going to share the same major or interests as you. But living in a student community forges tight bonds that can last a lifetime.

Save some cash

Living on campus is an all-inclusive package. When you’re just starting out, it’s helpful to have your expenses bundled. Soon enough you’ll be in an apartment and you’ll have to pay for gas, water, internet, renter’s insurance, food, etc. But why worry about that now?

Live in a safe, beautiful neighborhood

Dominican’s campus is nestled in a serene neighborhood that is close to Oak Park’s bustling downtown with plenty of shops, restaurants and the perfect theater for date nights. And, Dominican’s free shuttle makes it easy to get to the CTA Green Line, so you can dart off to the city when you’re craving a Chicago adventure. Plus, our campus safety staff is on the job 24/7 to ensure that our community stays safe and secure.

Make it easy on yourself

Living on campus is convenient. Imagine how many extra Z’s you can catch when you just have to walk five minutes to get to class or work instead of driving across town. Plus, all the amenities you need are right on site. Build your workout routine at the fitness center and the Collins running track. Grab a coffee or a meal at the campus café or dining hall. Catch up with friends over a game of pool in the Coughlin Commons. It’s all right here.

Find your sweet spot

Dominican’s campus is full of nooks where you can sneak away to study, read, create and chat. The Noonan Reading Room, the Rebecca Crown Library, the secret garden and the quad are some spaces that students love to claim at all hours of the day. The Noonan Reading Room is open around the clock.

Create community around what you love

While it’s wonderful to meet people outside your major, it’s also exciting to laser focus on your deepest interest with a community that shares it with you. Living, learning communities connect students around a common focus like Honors, STEM and Cultural Celebration. You’ll benefit from a truly unique living arrangement that intertwines collaboration, community and learning beyond the classroom.
