Brie Martin MLIS ’16 becomes owner of Southern Oregon Spartans

Brie Martin MLIS ’16 and her husband Dylan have purchased the Southern Oregon Spartans, a junior ice hockey team that plays in the Western States Hockey League (WSHL). The Spartans play their home games in Medford, Oregon.

The couple, who celebrates their first anniversary on Aug. 18, has dreamed of owning and running a junior hockey franchise. Brie was attending Dominican University and Dylan was playing hockey at Robert Morris University in Chicago when they met while working together at a local hockey rink, Johnny’s Icehouse.

The couple began dating and founded a charity hockey tournament at Johnny’s Icehouse that has gone on five years now. Dylan proposed on the ice during the second year of the event.

Dylan will serve as owner, general manager and head coach of the Spartans. Brie will serve as the team's president and game day events manager.
