Albertus Magnus Society

The Albertus Magnus Society is a program of the Siena Center which gathers persons with an academic, professional or general interest in exploring issues related to the intersection of religious belief or experience and scientific insight. All are invited to participate in an on-going conversation and help to develop the society’s programs, which include formal lectures by noted thinkers, regular informal seminars, the sharing of papers and articles, and more. The goal of the society is the pursuit of new information and insight in a setting that is both scholarly and congenial, and reflects the Dominican understanding of the compatibility of religion and science.

The Society was established in 2006 by the Siena Centerof Dominican University, with a grant from the Local Societies Initiative of the Metanexus Institute. It is rooted in Dominican University’s academic strengths in religion and science as well as in the spiritual and intellectual traditions of the Dominican Order.

The Society is named for Albertus Magnus, patron saint of scientists. He was a thirteenth-century Dominican famed for scientific discoveries and a theology reflective of the emerging science of his day.
