Mary Marks is an Adjunct instructor in the School Library Program at the School of Information Studies. Her professional background includes extensive experience as a teacher librarian (K-12), English/language arts and history/social studies teacher (6-12), and as a building and district administrator. Dr. Marks’ classroom and library experiences have led to instructional and field study partnerships with local and national programs and the development of collaborative curricular projects, many with an emphasis on experiential and inquiry learning. As a teacher librarian, she works with teachers in the design and implementation of collaborative curricular units of study with an emphasis on “hand on” activities and field studies. Dr. Marks also teaches courses in school library licensure to pre-service school librarians specifically focused on instructional design, curriculum development, and technology integration. She is active in state school library initiatives and committees such as the School Library Recognition Award and the Illinois Reader’s Choice Awards.
