Technology Specialist Endorsement/Certificate

Offered each fall, the online technology specialist endorsement program is designed to prepare licensed teachers, librarians and media specialists to effectively manage and integrate technology into learning and information environments.
At the end of the program, candidates will be able to:
- Plan and design staff development activities to support professional growth in learning technologies
- Implement information access and delivery resources in P-12 schools to support curricula
Upon completion of the endorsement coursework, candidates may complete additional coursework to receive a Master of Arts in Education degree.

- Summer II 2024: July 1–August 19; deadline: June 21
- Fall I 2024: August 26–October 18; deadline: August 16
- Fall II 2024: October 21–December 14; deadline: October 11

Certificate Program
Dominican also offers a certificate in educational technology. An excellent professional-development opportunity for educators, librarians and media specialists, this Dominican-administered certificate will prepare you to enhance teaching and learning.
Endorsement Program Requirements
Candidates may apply for the State of Illinois Technology Specialist Endorsement upon satisfactory completion of the prescribed curriculum while maintaining a grade point average of 3.0 out of 4.0.
In addition to 18 semester hours of coursework, candidates must:
- Pass the Technology Specialist Test (178) to obtain the official endorsement through the Illinois State Board of Education
- Hold a valid Professional Educator License
Certificate Program Requirements
The certificate program requires 12 semester hours of coursework, including:
- EDU 776/LIS 724 Integrating Technology into Programming, Services and Instruction (required course)
- An additional nine semester hours chosen by the candidate
The endorsement program can be completed in approximately four to five semesters.
Technology Specialist Learning Outcomes
- Effectively plan, deliver, and assess students' mastery of concepts and skills relevant to learning technologies and technological literacy across the curriculum and apply effective methods and strategies for teaching these concepts and skills to students, educators, and administrators in various educational settings.
- Select, install, manage, and maintain infrastructure in a classroom setting.
- Identify and apply educational and technology-related research, the psychology of learning, and instructional design principles in guiding use of computers and technology in education.
- Develop curricular plans and teaching aids based on local, state and national standards for the use of computers and other associated learning technologies, integrating these across subject and content areas.
- Implement information access and delivery resources in P-12 schools to support the curriculum.
- Install, customize, and configure the operating systems of computers and computer networks in school settings.
- Identify and implement software in both classroom and administrative environments, and investigate issues related to school/site planning, purchasing, and integration of technology.
- Develop an instructional program based on local, state, and national standards for the use of computers and other associated learning technologies, integrating these plans across subject and content areas.
- Investigate issues and models related to leadership in staff development and identify resources, plan, and design staff development activities to support professional growth in learning technologies.
- Explore issues related to facilities and resource management.
- Manage the change process as part of overall educational reform efforts in schools and districts.
- Participate in professional development experiences that allow him or her to observe the use of technology to support instruction, the management of technological resources in educational settings, and the evaluation of the effectiveness of technological resources in teaching and learning; and to apply technological resources to support instruction in classroom settings.
