Dominican University offers health care coverage through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois (external site). Plans have been designed to provide employees with a variety of options to best meet their personal needs. The four plans are summarized below:

Blue Advantage HMO Plan
PPO Plan
High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP)
PPO Blue Choice Plan

At the Blue Cross/Blue Shield website, you can view your claims, download and print forms and take advantage of the tools and special offers available to you as a member of BCBSIL.

New employees have 30 days to elect coverage. Open enrollment is generally held in November.

To access the website, you will need the username and password you selected when you enrolled online (there is a username/password reminder option) or you can register using the Group and Individual Numbers as listed on your insurance card.

Blue365 Discount Program

Blue Cross Blue Shield gives members access to discounts on a variety of healthcare and wellness products and services. Please visit the 2025 Benefits Guide, pages 23-24 for information.

Vision Discount Program

As a Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois (BCBSIL) member, you are eligible for discounts on eye exams and eyewear, including frames, lenses, lens options and permanent contact lenses, through EyeMed Vision. You have access to a national network of contracting providers, such as ophthalmologists, optometrists and opticians.

COBRA

The Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA) gives faculty and staff and their families the right to choose to continue group health benefits provided by the group health plan for limited periods of time under certain circumstances such as voluntary or involuntary job loss, reduction in the hours worked, transition between jobs, death, divorce and other life events. Qualified faculty and staff are required to pay 100% of the monthly premium for coverage.
