Grief and Loss
The Student Care Network can provide support to you and your families in times of grief and loss. While we all grieve differently, walking together is deeply important in this process. We must take time with each other to talk together, to listen to each other, to pray together, and to be present for each other.
Bereavement Support through University Ministry
Bereavement support is part of the continuous holistic student support offered at Dominican. Bereavement support from University Ministry is centered on the daily lived experiences of mourning and grieving and grounded in the accompaniment of the individual student. This support emphasizes and supports the strengths and assets that you bring to your own process of mourning and loss.
Complex and/or unprocessed grief that leads to more significant barriers in academic performance and social functioning can be referred to the Assessment and Care Team, Wellness Center, and/or Academic Success Teams.
You can request bereavement support through the Stars Assistance form.
Counseling through the Wellness Center
The Wellness Center offers free counseling, stress management and wellness services.
The counseling staff is part of an interdisciplinary team of licensed health professionals and graduate interns who work together to support your optimal health and well-being.
There is no fee for counseling services for Dominican University students. Call before you are overwhelmed.
Call the Wellness Center at (708) 524-6229 to request an appointment.
