The National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) has selected Dominican University’s Career Development Program as the winner of the 2023 Career Services Excellence Award in the “Small School” category.

This prestigious award is given to programs that demonstrate excellence in best practices. Dominican's program was selected based on its four required career development courses, required internships, and built-in mentorships through the Executives and Experts in Residence program, said Jamie Shaw, executive director of career programs and employer relations at Dominican.

"I am honored to have Dominican’s career development program selected amongst this year’s NACE award winners," Shaw said. "This award signals that what we are doing here at Dominican with career programs is incredibly unique and life changing. Knowing that the career development courses will be an integral part of the Core Curriculum beginning in 2024-25 is amazing. I am incredibly grateful to the entire Career Programs team, our leadership, faculty partners, and staff colleagues for all of their efforts in making this award, and the work that we, do possible."

The Career Programs team consists of Shaw; Bianca Beteta, assistant director of internships and externships; Denise Guzman, STEM career programs and internship coordinator; Eric Borsche, assistant director of student employment and internships; Jennifer Heard, office manager; and Elizabeth Soto, activity director of the Title V A2: El Faro project.

The Career Development Program previously won the Best Practices Award this year through the Cooperative Education and Internship Association, a nationwide organization composed of educators, employers, researchers, students and partner agencies.
