Dominican University alumnae/i, faculty staff and friends raised a record-setting $113,745 for scholarships and student support during the university’s 2024 Day of Giving on April 17.

Through their gifts, donors from around the world unlocked a $40,000 matching gift from three generous alumnae/i. Anthony Powers '82, MALIS '85 and Rose Mary (Olszewski) Powers '77, MALS '78 contributed in honor of their parents, Vincent and Lillian Powers and Louis and Mary Olszewski, whose sacrifices provided the couple with the gift of a Rosary/Dominican education. Linda Korbel ’71, an advocate for the education of girls and women and a supporter of international study, contributed her matching donation in gratitude to Dominican for the academic preparation that made her career in higher education possible.

This year’s Day of Giving raised approximately $10,000 more than last year’s fundraiser, said Joanna Skubish, director of annual giving.

Gifts will support the Dominican Fund, an unrestricted fund that supports areas of highest need, including scholarships; academic, library and research programs; study abroad and service learning; internships and career development; ministry and wellness; student success initiatives; and more.

Donors also supported DU Feeds, Dominican’s food pantry for the campus community, and a general scholarship fund.

Those who donated $100 or more will receive their choice of Dominican University or Rosary college socks. Donors of $175 or more will receive one of each pair.

To highlight the importance of the day and of philanthropic support, University Advancement hosted a Day of Giving table in Lewis Hall. Students, faculty and staff shared what they love about Dominican on paper stars, which they attached to a Day of Giving banner.
