Dominican Star Staff Take Home Awards at Press Association Conference

The Dominican Star student newspaper staff recently won five awards at the annual Illinois College Press Association conference.

The conference was held Feb. 28-March 1 in downtown Chicago. The Star competed against the student newspapers from a dozen other small colleges and universities around the state.

The awards presented to the Star staff were:

·        Front Page Design, 2nd place Star staff.

·        Advertising Design, Honorable Mention, Edgar Vega

·        News Story, Honorable Mention, Fiona Rowlands

·        Sports News Story, Honorable Mention, Michael Del Genio

·        Feature Photo, Honorable Mention, Julian Gutierrez

At the conference, Star staff attended two days of seminars and workshops on topics ranging from sports writing to headline writing with artificial intelligence. In addition, co-editor Angel Dominguez participated as a panelist in a standing-room-only editors’ roundtable session.

The student journalists will be presenting their work and insights April 9 at the SI Expo on campus.
