Dr. Hassan Zamir, associate professor in the School of Information Studies, is the recipient of an Innovations in Pedagogy and Teaching Fellowship from The HistoryMakers, the nation’s largest African American video oral history archive.

Zamir’s course Foundations of Information Technology will use the HistoryMakers Digital Archive to teach students about the history and contributions of African Americans in the field of information technology. Additionally, students will "critically examine the ethical and societal implications of information technology, with a focus on issues of access and inclusion," according to HistoryMakers.

The HistoryMakers teaching fellowship is designed to “foster classroom innovation and teaching, and to diversify curricula, while furthering student learning and research skills during the upcoming academic year,” the Chicago-based organization said.
