On the first anniversary of the war in Ukraine, Dominican University Assistant Professor of Marketing Dr. Elvira Kizilova was again a featured guest on ABC57 News in South Bend, Indiana for a segment on the war.

Kizilova, who lived in Ukraine for 30 years, appeared on the Feb. 24, 2023 morning news for a segment entitled “Reflecting on One Year Since the Start of the Ukraine War.” She was interviewed by anchor and Dominican University alum Rich Bodee ’17 and co-anchor Summer Horan.

Kizilova noted that over 64,000 war crimes by Russia have been reported by Ukraine since the start of the conflict and that Russia is “ignoring all war rules, attacking civilians with no reason, killing innocent people, raping people, killing children. This is just terrible.”

Ukraine has “no other option” than to win the war, Kizilova said.

“If we don’t win this war, we will leave this to our children, to our grandchildren and this war will last forever,” she said. “We know we already have a tough history of Russian occupation of Ukraine and tensions between Russia and Ukraine. If we don’t win (the war) right now, we won’t have a future as a country.”
