Rebecca Yowler MLIS ’13 is profiled in a June 27, 2022 feature story published by US Figure Skating.

An ordained minister and an assistant librarian for research and instruction at Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois, Yowler discovered figure skating while an undergraduate at Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky. She continues to skate and competed in the 2022 U.S. Adult Championships this past April, according to the U.S. Figure Skating organization.

Yowler told usfigureskating.org that she began considering a library career after losing her job as director of Christian education at a Methodist church when her sexual orientation was revealed.

“I remember driving to one of the rinks and thinking about what I liked best about college and seminary. What I liked best was doing the research and being in the library,” Yowler was quoted as saying. “Then, [on the radio], there was an advertisement that said, ‘Our programming is brought to you by the School of Library and Information Science at Dominican University.’ I thought that might be my sign.”

Yowler decided to attend an information night at Dominican and subsequently enrolled to pursue her Master of Library and Information Science degree.
