Recent Dominica alumnus Carlos Benitez '21 discusses the particular challenges LGBTQ+ young people have faced during the pandemic. He shared that some were home insecure and that people of color in the LGBTQ+ community often face another set of barriers on top of their gender and sexual identities. He encouraged  people not to be discouraged and to ask for help until their needs are met--and to never give up, even when resources are hard to find.

"Take a deep breath. You're not alone.There are so many people out there waiting for you, and you just got to knock on their door. It's going to be a long ride and it's going to be very difficult. But you can find a place. You can find a space. You can find community. All those things are very possible," he said.
