Common Accommodations and Services
Accommodations are determined on an individual basis, because everyone’s experience of disability is different. Students should request accommodations when they experience barriers in classroom, online, or physical environments on campus, and engage in the interactive process to determine eligibility for reasonable accommodations. Some common accommodations and services provided by the ADA office include:
- Exam Accommodations (Extended Time, Reduced Distraction Environment, Exams Read Aloud, Use of a Scribe, etc.)
- Alternate text formats (digital/audio/braille, etc.)
- Assistive technology (speech-to-text, text-to speech, etc.)
- Accessible classrooms and furniture
- Copies of lecture notes
- Ability to tape-record lectures
- Sign Language Interpreters
- CART Caption Services
- Attendance consideration due to chronic health needs
- Housing accommodations (ADA accessible room, proximity to bathroom, access to refrigerator, air conditioning, Emotional Support Animals in campus housing, meal plan modification, etc.)
- Dietary/Allergy needs
- Priority registration for tutoring
- Academic Coaching
- Accessibility support for campus events
- Support with Self-Advocacy
- Liaison with faculty
This is not an exhaustive list. Accommodations are unique to each student and are based on eligibility.
