Premedical Student Uses Ancient Remedies to Create Modern Beauty Products

With modern beauty in mind, Hannah Danha is tapping into the ancient remedies of her ancestors.

Danha, a senior biology major at Dominican University, is using her Excellence in Experiential Learning (ExcEL) Scholar Award grant to relaunch her small online beauty care product line inspired by natural Assyrian remedies for hair, skin and nail care that have been used for centuries. Some of these concoctions were passed down by Danha’s grandmother, who learned of their beneficial properties in her native village of Tur-Abdin, Turkey.

Cook County Chief Judge Delivers Address on Restorative Justice Courts

“Is there anybody here who didn’t need a second chance?” Cook County Chief Judge Timothy Evans asked Dominican University students, faculty and staff last week.  

Evans, keynote speaker for Dominican’s Black History Month, had just wrapped up a Feb. 28 presentation on Cook County’s Restorative Justice Community Courts, a new model for rehabilitating young adult offenders.

“I suspect all of us needed a second chance — somebody to speak up for us and tell us, ‘Hey, that wasn’t the thing to do,'” he said.  

Dominican University to Welcome Activist, Social Justice Leader Dolores Huerta

Social Justice Leader and Chicano Civil Rights Pioneer Dolores Huerta will take part in a discussion entitled “Weaving Movements Together” on Tuesday, March 14.

The program will begin with live Mariachi music at 2 p.m., followed by a conversation with Dolores Huerta at 2:30 p.m. The discussion will be moderated by University Librarian Estevan Montaño.
